JOB SUMMARY: A professional who assumes responsibility for the direction, coordination, and supervision of the special education process in assigned buildings from screening through identification and placement to ensure (1) appropriate identification and placement of students with disabilities; and (2) district compliance with state and federal requirements for the implementation of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Additional duties may be assigned.
- Implements procedures for special education referrals, secures consent for exchange of medical information and medical reports, assists with evaluations, development of IEPs and placement.
- Builds and maintains positive relationships with staff, students, and parents/guardians.
- Coordinates the review of records and necessary action for transfer students.
- Main point of contact for parent referrals and responsible for implementing and following the process
- Implements procedures for evaluation, placement, and re-evaluation of students.
- Coordinates evaluation process and observations.
- Assists with the maintenance of individual records and files of all students receiving special services.
- Coordinates and/or attends meetings with parent/guardian to coordinate process and ensure compliance.
- Attends Review of Existing Data, Eligibility, and IEP meetings as needed.
- Completes outside/contractual/private, and parochial evaluations, diagnostic summaries and IEP conferences in collaboration with the assessment team.
- Assists with orientation and professional development related to the Special Education process and procedures to include assisting new staff members with compliance.
- Collaborates with and provides professional development to teachers within the special education department in regard to compliance, process, and eligibility.
- Stays up to date and informed of legal requirements governing Special Education including DESE training, Standards & Indicators Updates, and consultation with RPDC.
- Serves as a resource for all staff involved in provision of services for students receiving special education on a building level.
- Collaborates with building level teams to continue development of interventions for students.
- Leads building level Special Education department meetings and meetings with building level admin.
- Confidently takes on the role of local education agency (LEA) representative as designated by the Lexington R-V Board of Education for meetings.
- Completes other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the superintendent or designee.
- The Special Education Process Coordinator shall have a minimum of five years of teaching experience in a regular and/or special education classroom.
- The Special Education Process Coordinator shall have a Master’s Degree in education with certification in at least one area of special education or related area by the Missouri State Board of Education, and relevant coursework related to evaluation and assessment and the special education process.
- School Psychological Examiner certification by the State Board of Education is preferred.
- The employee will complete a satisfactory criminal/abuse and neglect background check in accordance with state law and Board policy.
