Position Summary:

The primary responsibilities are to be the educational and programmatic leader for the school.  The principal will set the curriculum in collaboration with the Academic Leadership Team and establish expectations for instruction, assessments and school culture.  The principal creates a positive school culture, sets high standards for staff and students, and is the instructional leader of the school.   The principal manages the collaboration among staff to co-plan, co-deliver, and individualize instruction for all students in a class; work together creatively to accommodate special needs, diversity and educational backgrounds of the students; and overcome instructional challenges constructively. The principal is a hardworking, goal-oriented and enthusiastic professional with excellent subject knowledge and a sound understanding of the Missouri Learning Standards and Common Core State Standards.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Conceptualizes the broad goals of the school and plans accordingly to ensure that procedures and schedules are implemented to carry out the total school program.
  • Ensures that the school program is compatible with the legal, financial and organizational structure of the school system. The principal defines the responsibilities and accountability of staff members and develops plans for interpreting the school program to the community.
  • Provides activities which facilitate the professional growth of the school staff and enhance the quality of the instructional program.
  • Collaborate with the Academic Leadership Team to strengthen the district wide approach 
  • Identifies the annual objectives for the instructional, extracurricular, and athletic programs of the school.
  • Ensures that instructional objectives for a given subject and/or classroom are developed, and involves the staff and others in the development of specific curricular objectives to meet the needs of the school program.
  • Evaluates student progress in the instructional program by means that include the maintaining of up-to-date student data.
  • Maintains inter-school system communication and seeks assistance from central office staff to improve performance. The principal maintains good relationships with students, staff, and parents. The principal complies with established lines of authority.
  • Orients and assists new staff and new students and provides opportunities for their input in the school program.
  • Encourages the use of community resources, cooperates with the community in the use of school facilities, interprets the school program for the community, and maintains communication with community members.
  • Organizes, oversees, and provides support to the various services, supplies, material, and equipment provided to carry out the school program. The principal makes use of community resources.
  • Develops, monitors, and revamps curriculum as needed
  • Recruits teachers and students
  • Supports teachers through observations, feedback, and coaching.
  • Assists in leading the faculty in the data team process, the creation of common formative assessments, the ongoing review, and refinement of curriculum and learning objectives and the implementation of the response to intervention (RTI) strategies.  
  • Ensures that the learning environment is dynamic and conducive to high-level learning.  
  • Helps design and implement a professional development plan for all faculty.
  • Directly supervises instructional staff as assigned.
  • Demonstrate gains in student performance
  • Participate in meetings, training, and professional development
  • Meet professional obligations through efficient work habits such as meeting deadlines, honoring schedules, coordinating, etc.
  • Act in a professional and ethical manner at all times and comply with school policies, procedures, and expectations.
