Reports To: Director of Activities /Athletics

Education and Experience:
  • 4-yr degree with Full Teacher Certification, is preferred; Candidates with 60 college hours and Substitute Certification may be considered
  • Successful experience coaching this activity is preferred
Essential Job Functions:
  • Assesses player’s skills and gives input in assigning team positions.
  • Follows a practice schedule, plans and coordinates drills, and utilizes practice time to provide both individual, group, and team development.
  • Supervise, coach and instruct student athletes individually or in groups, regarding the rules, regulations, equipment, training and techniques of the sport.
  • Observes players during games and practices to determine the needs for individual or team improvement.
  • Assist in determining competition strategies based on team competencies.
  • Maintains standards of student behavior and provides proper supervision of athletes at all times.
  • Encourages student athletes to maintain a high academic standard.
  • Guide and mentor student-athletes in a positive manner.
  • Record daily attendance of a specific group of athletes.
  • Assist in summer activities.
  • Willing to work nights and weekends.
  • Ensure that adequate supervision is provided for all students involved in the program including locker rooms and buses
  • Follows established procedures in the event of an athlete’s injury.
  • Administers first aid when necessary.
  • Respond to risk management/emergency situations and notify emergency responders when appropriate.
  • Conferences with parents/guardians, as necessary, regarding the athletic performance of their student.
  • Follows MSHSAA and District regulations.
  • Models sports-like behavior and maintains appropriate conduct towards players, officials, and spectators.
  • Models non-discriminatory practices in all activities.
  • Immediately investigates complaints, responds to rule infractions, reports serious violations of school rules or suspicious or unauthorized activities to school administrators.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Other Functions, Duties and Responsibilities:
Attends staff development meetings, clinics, and other professional activities to improve coaching performance. Performs other related duties as assigned by the Principal, Director of Athletics/Activities or other Administrators. Ability to judge situations and people accurately and think and act judiciously under diverse conditions. Ability to communicate effectively with event officials, parents, students, general public, and school personnel. Ability to develop effective working relationships with event officials, staff, and the school community. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all MSHSAA, District requirements and Board policies.
