The Southern Boone School District is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Learning Garden Aide to support the Learning Garden Teacher in delivering farm-to-table experiences and garden-based learning for students in grades Kindergarten through 4th. This position will involve working closely with students in both the garden and classroom settings, assisting in educational activities, and supporting the overall success of the garden-based curriculum. The Learning Garden Aide will work as a part of a collaborative team that integrates plant science, sustainability, and agricultural education into the student experience.
Key Responsibilities:
The Southern Boone School District is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Learning Garden Aide to support the Learning Garden Teacher in delivering farm-to-table experiences and garden-based learning for students in grades Kindergarten through 4th. This position will involve working closely with students in both the garden and classroom settings, assisting in educational activities, and supporting the overall success of the garden-based curriculum. The Learning Garden Aide will work as a part of a collaborative team that integrates plant science, sustainability, and agricultural education into the student experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the Learning Garden Teacher in providing both in-class and pull-out instruction for students in PreK, Early Childhood Special Education, and Kindergarten through 4th.
- Help with the preparation and maintenance of the garden area, including planting, harvesting, and organizing garden tools and materials.
- Support students during hands-on garden activities, ensuring they are engaged, safe, and learning effectively.
- Help manage the learning environment during garden-based lessons, providing additional support to students who may need it.
- Assist with coordinating student garden clubs and organizing activities that encourage student participation in the garden program.
- Collaborate with the high school agriculture program and community partners to enhance the learning experience.
- Aid the Learning Garden Teacher in supervising and mentoring high school student helpers.
- Maintain strong communication with the Learning Garden Teacher and other staff members to ensure smooth operation of the program.
- Assist in gathering and organizing materials and resources for lessons and activities related to plant science, math, science, and language arts.
- Help create and implement engaging, hands-on learning experiences for students that connect classroom lessons with the garden environment.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Learning Garden Teacher to support the success of the program.
- High school diploma or equivalent; some college coursework in education, agriculture, or related fields preferred.
- Previous experience working with young children in an educational setting, particularly in a hands-on or outdoor environment, is a plus.
- Strong interest in gardening, sustainability, and agricultural education.
- Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, staff, and community partners.
- Excellent communication skills, both with students and adults.
- Ability to be flexible and adaptable in a dynamic, outdoor learning environment.
- Must pass background checks as required by the district.
- Ability to perform physical tasks such as bending, kneeling, and lifting.
- Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions.
